There’s a lot that goes into writing a book, but what about the bigger picture? A lot of genre fiction authors write in series--thrillers, fantasy, science fiction, urban fantasy are the first few that come to mine. Even romance, where the plot is tied up with a HEA or HFN, has a fair few series (Outlander, anyone?)
I’m in the process of finishing Reorged, my first fantasy and I’ve realized there are a lot of things to keep in mind that I didn’t have to consider with a novel or the two books in the middle of the series. So, for all my series warriors out there, here are 5 tips--from writing to publishing--for when you finish the final book.
Each genre and series are different, and some heavy research into genre/demographic norms and obligatory scenes or comp titles will be a huge help. That said, I tried to keep these vague enough for almost any author to find something useful, even if it’s just a reminder to brag a bit about your awesome accomplishment.
